A Salisbury-based community group will be hosting a singing event for those with long-term health conditions

Sounds Better CIC is a music wellbeing group which supports people with conditions such as dementia, lung conditions and learning disabilities.

The local community group has announced a one-off event called Love Your Lungs, on Tuesday, April 30 from 2:30 till 4:30pm at the Wilton Community Centre.

After the success of Lung Friendly Salisbury Week, an online event held during the pandemic, Sounds Better has decided to hold an in-person event to help attendees learn more about managing breathlessness through singing.

The event will feature information about living with lung conditions and with signposting to local and national support for breathlessness and lung conditions.

There will also be a Singing for Lung Health session where participants can discover the benefits of signing for helping with breathlessness and other lung conditions.

Liv McLennan, Director of Sounds Better CIC said: “ We’re passionate about using music to improve wellbeing generally. We’ve wanted to put on an in-person event for a while, but have held off because of the risk of COVID, and opted to hold our Lung Friendly Salisbury Week online because of this.

“We’re really looking forward to this event and hope to help those living with breathlessness and lung conditions to learn ways on managing their breathing, all whilst enjoying themselves."

Sound Better CIC also run the Salisbury Breathless Singers on Tuesday in Wilton and online via Zoom, along with a 6- week introductory course in partnership with Salisbury’s Parish Nurse at various venues around Salisbury or online through Zoom
