SOUTH Wilts Grammar School has announced a new head teacher.

This comes after the news that Mrs Michele Chilcott will retire in August after 13 years in the role.

Dr Amanda Smith, who has been the head teacher at Poole Grammar School for the last four years, will take over from September.

Dr Smith returns to South Wilts having previously been the deputy head teacher at the school.

Dr Smith is a scientist and brings "excellent leadership experience" gained both at Poole Grammar School and at South Wilts, the school has said.

Dr Smith said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to take on this role and return to South Wilts. It is an absolute honour and privilege to be the next Head Teacher of a school that I know has such a strong ethos, culture and commitment to diversity and girls’ education.”

Ongoing head Mrs Chilcott said: “Dr Smith and I will be working closely to ensure an effective handover to help a smooth transition. I am sure you will join me in wishing Dr Smith well when she takes up her new position in September.”
