A WOMAN has set up a day centre for adults with learning disabilities, autism and ADHD.

Clare Sines, 51 from Salisbury, has set up a day provision called “Spire Inclusion”, which is based at St Michael’s Church and Community Centre.

It is a paid service that intends to provide support through the teaching of life skills like cooking and road safety, as well as leisure activities from arts and crafts to gardening.

Until now, Clare has been working as a learning disability nurse specialising in behaviour for a community team.

Clare said: “I love doing behaviour because there’s always a reason for it. For years I’ve been really passionate about it.”

Her new role in her self-funded company “Spire Inclusion” is project lead.

The company is something that Clare has wanted to set up for years, and from what she has seen in her current job as a learning disability nurse, she has felt it necessary to start it now.

She said: “The amount of referrals we’re getting, especially post-covid, for people’s mental health going down is why I wanted to set this up now.”

A big helping hand in the set up has been Kate Varga, community centre manager at St Michael’s.

Kate said: “It very much echoes what the community centre stands for. It’s so essential in this part of Salisbury.”

Her background in SEND has meant that she has been able to support Clare and will continue to do so. Despite having only met very recently, Clare and Kate have become a great team.

Clare said: “It was like we were meant to be! I couldn’t have done it without Kate.

"It fits well with everything that the community needs. It’s a safe space – that’s what we’re emphasising. Making a difference.”

The day centre will also have a holistic therapist, Zoe Anderson, attend on Thursdays to provide therapies such as reflexology and Indian head massages.

After a successful open day on Wednesday, May 1, the official opening date for Spire Inclusion is Tuesday, May 7. Sessions are Monday to Friday, between 10am-3pm, and people can attend for a full or half day.
